Endless Summer

This morning's light is the pale, watery gleam of late summer and the air already has a chill to it--not quite enough for a sweater but close to it. The brief blaze of sun that we receive in the Pacific Northwest--and that gave us tropical heat long after dusk on a truly magical full moon night last Saturday--is on its way out, far too soon for many of us.

And yet this year summer will not end for me. Through an amazing twist, I will be on my way to Bangkok in a few weeks, to live and work and write and soak up the wonderful, steamy heat and light that characterize my favorite place in the world.

As this autumn approaches, I feel blessed, and as winter approaches, I won't be around to complain about it. Life is not only good--sometimes it offers small miracles that can only be accepted with gratitude and wonder.

And I'll be looking forward to your arrival. But before I do, I just have to ask... are you coming out from Seattle by chance?

Yes, I am indeed coming from Seattle--do you want a copy of the PI
or perhaps The Stranger?

This posting made my day. I'm so happy for you.

I certainly do, but...

...I'm headed to Seattle on the 16th of October...

You realize of course, Cat, that with all of these weird coincidences we are bound to loathe each other immediately or be firm friends for life--no middle ground.

Hah! Yes, it has been mounting up.

I'm almost afraid to ask what your birthday is...

(care to break the sequence?)

Mine is May 17th, so the sequence broken... so no more 50/50 possibility of 'loathing each other immediately'...

Unless you growl at cats, artists, book and plant lovers with a penchant for jumping from this and that in a search for... whatever it is one searches for...

I'm so relieved that we don't share a birthday!
